Track and field season has always piqued my interest during my young reporting career.
Among my first beats as a student reporter at SIU Carbondale was the men’s and women’s track and field teams. The student-athletes who compete for those teams are relative unknowns on the campus compared to their friends on the basketball and football teams.
Still, the athletes on the Salukis’ track teams found success among the relative anonymity on campus.
As a photographer, I’m still adjusting to the challenges indoor track and field presents to yours truly. Some gyms are dark, providing poor lighting for photo taking. Other gyms are laid out to where it makes it difficult for a photographer to get into position to take a good shot.
Alas, I still found some good images from the early part of track season. Though, I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t counting the days until outdoor season comes around.
