Every year, I start summer with a list of songs that serve as a soundtrack to the summer.
When summer comes to an unofficial end on Labor Day weekend, I take a look at the aforementioned list and notice how much it grew.
So, maybe you’ll consider this your Labor Day road trip/BBQ/ride around town with the windows down/Friday fun playlist.
Or maybe you won’t.
But for me, this playlist serves as a final tip of the cap to summer — and the first notice that sweatervest weather is just around the corner. Continue reading
On May 2, 2011, my good friend Ryan Voyles (read his stuff here) put together “The Osama’s Gone/America Fuck Yeah” playlist on Facebook after the announcement of Osama Bin Laden’s death.
Today, I’d like to share my version of that playlist.
It’s not your typical Fourth of July playlist. Heck, it leads off with the controversial parody of Wacka Flocka Flame’s “Hard In The Paint” that was adapted into something so utterly ridiculous and fun-bad, it’s hard not to like.
So enjoy some of this 20-song hitlist, and don’t forget to hit up the Never Ending Summer Playlist for your BBQ needs. Continue reading
It’s a sleepless night in Marseilles.
Lightning is flashing out my window with thunder booming overhead.
No better time to share my rainy day playlist with anyone who might be up late enjoying the storms with me.
Personally, I’m not anti-storms. Rainy days can sometimes be the best days.
As a sports writer, they can give you a breather during a hectic spring.

In any case, every occasion needs a soundtrack — right?
After the jump, I’ll share mine. Continue reading
For most of my friends, you know the drill. So sit back, relax and strap it down.
For others, this is a new experience.
In short, the last two years I’ve used Facebook around this time of the year to get some input on what should be on my summer soundtrack.
By tagging some of the more knowledgeable music minds I know, I’ve been able to amass what is now known as the #NeverEndingSummerPlaylist.
This year comes with a caveat, as I’ve conveniently left off any song with the word “Summer” out of it. So, that means “Summer Love” by Justin Timberlake, “Summertime” by the Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff, “Summer Madness” by Kool & The Gang and others have been left off.
Also, the full list includes upward of 300 songs. So, look for that on Twitter sometime this summer.
As always, your suggestions are appreciated and will most likely be added to my music collection. So let’s hear ’em. (So, if you’re tagged, it probably means I think you have good taste in music.)
Meanwhile, here’s my current selection, a list of 130 of my current favorites.
(Because cutting it down to 100 would have been too damn difficult.) Continue reading
