The Bolingbrook High School girls basketball team rolled onto the campus of Illinois Wesleyan College in Bloomington, Ill., with one goal — a return trip to Bloomington for the IHSA Class 4A finals. And behind a strong second-half effort, the Lady Raiders did just that as junior forward Morgan Tuck scored a game-high 20 points to pace BHS to a 59-45 win against the Edwardsville Tigers.
Ariel Massengale, a senior guard who will be attending the University of Tennessee next season, ignited the Lady Raiders’ run in what turned out to be the decisive third quarter. Massengale scored 12 of her 17 points after intermission, including seven during a third quarter 15-5 run that spanned almost seven minutes. BHS started the third period with a three-point lead, but ended the quarter with a much comfortable 13-point advantage.
The Lady Raiders return to Bloomington on Friday in search of their third straight state championship. But first, they must conquer Whitney Young High School, a Chicago Public League powerhouse, in the semi-final round.
